VECTORS V/S STILLS

Vectors v/s Stills

Why we need vectors?
Vectors are the most important part in a life of a Graphic Designer. We mainly have to deal with graphics that are vector and that’s too because it has some special characters which are lifesaving in many circumstances. A vector image has no bound at all for zooming in. It means that no matter how much you zoom into it or in other words no matter that at how much bigger screen you are going to display the vector, it’s still going to be pixel perfect without any disturbance. They are crisp, smooth and perfect all at once at any scale.
There are stills which can do the same, what about them?
Those stills are not which you click from your mobile phones or share n WhatsApp. Those are clicked with specialised Cameras. These cameras, which is not affordable by many of us, comes with special lenses and technologies. The pictures that are clicked by them have 100 or 1000 times more pixel than our regular smartphone camera and that’s why they can be scale to such a huge level. However, increasing pixels means increasing the image size and those who are familiar with web development knows that it is not good for it. It makes our website heavy and hard to load and make it very laggy. On the other hand, when we use vectors in PNG or SVG format, they do the same work more easily without making our website heavy.
Vectors in PNG or SVG
The truth is that we can export our vector in any format, be it PNG or SVG or JPG or any other. However only SVG or Scalable Vector Graphic contains vector properties of a vector to the best possible extent. Its name is the best definition of SVG than any other definition. PNG or Portable Network Graphics holds it transparent background property best but its property of scalability gets reduced. However, one thing that I like most about PNG is that it can take place of every graphic that is required in the website at any place like favicon (preferred: .ICO), social icons or any other icon.
Conclusion
Vectors are irreplaceable and so are stills. Vectors help your website a lot to stay light and responsive but Stills also have their importance. What look a still photograph can provide to your website a vector graphic cannot, ever. They both have their benefits and their disadvantages. The thing is that we need to think over them continuously, their benefits and their differences to know exactly where do we need which one of them.
